5 other uses of your nail polish

If you're one of those women who love buying different shades of nail paints, according to your changing moods but don't land up using the entire bottle, stop worrying about wasting all that nail colour.

Apart from applying nail polish on your nails, did you know that this beauty accessory can be used for many other useful purposes? Read on to find out more!

- If you have a pair of heels that you're bored of, instead of stacking them away, upgrade them by painting their soles with nail polish. Coloured opaque paints work best, since they won't reveal the true colour of your shoe. While doing this, you don't want to get the nail polish on the other parts of your shoe. So use masking tape along the edge where the shoe meets the sole—the same way you would protect the ceiling and window panes when you're painting a room. Once you've painted the sole in your desired colour, allow it to dry before applying a second coat (if needed). Finally, pull off the tape to reveal a neat polish job.

- Did you know that you can cover up a scratch on scuffed shoes or boots, with nail polish? If you have coloured shoes, and if you are not getting the same coloured shoe polish, just use a nail paint that matches the shoe colour! Remember to put the shade on your nail first, give it a minute to dry off and then check the colour, as a test. If you think the shade matches your shoes, feel free to apply it on the scratch marks.Super High Heel Sandals

- Add some funk to your favourite accessory - say a bag or clutch, by using nail polish. How? It's simple. Take some stencils and tape, and paint your initials on the bag!

- You can change the look of any junk jewellery piece that you have. Take a ring, pendant or earrings and colour them with pops of bright colours like neon green or hot pink. Simply lay the jewellery piece flat on a paper towel and begin to paint.

Wipe out yellow stains from white shirt

Are you trying to hide the yellow tones on the underarm portion of your white shirt? There are ways to prevent it from appearing again

Decolourisation of the underarm portion of a light coloured shirt, especially on your white shirt can be extremely disconcerting and embarrassing. But it cannot be avoided, as the stains are caused by the reaction between anti-perspirant ingredients and the salts in your sweat. Most anti-perspirants contain aluminum compounds to reduce wetness. It is the aluminum that causes the build-up and yellowing on fabrics. However, they don't appear overnight, so you can still undo the damage before it become permanent. Here's how you can do it:

- Wear an undershirt or a cotton half-sleeve shinglet to protect your expensive outer shirt. If not, switch to an aluminum-free deodorant. Choose a brand with the lowest aluminum content.

- After applying deodorant, allow it to dry before putting on your shirt to prevent it from rubbing off on the fabric. If you cannot wait, drying the area with a hair dryer will do the trick.

- If you have perspired while wearing a garment, wash or dry-clean it as quickly as possible. Dry shirts in the sun to increase whitening of fabrics.

- If your shirt is meant to be dry-cleaned, then do it, to prevent staining.

- Darker colors may have residue on the fabric under the arms. To remove the build-up, add a cup of white vinegar to cool water and wash it in the machine.

A DIY stain remover
If your shirt is white and washable, you can try the following methods to remove the stains, but it also depends on how old the stains are:

First method
Make a solution of one part baking soda, one part peroxide, and one part water. You will need about 1/4 cup each of baking soda, peroxide and water to treat one shirt. Protect the countertop with a thick white towel, rub 1:1:1 solution into stains and allow it to work for at least 30 minutes. Use an old soft toothbrush or bristle brush to loosen any residue and then wash as usual in warm or cold water.

Second method
Take one part oxygen-based detergent, one part ammonia and mix the solution well wearing rubber gloves. Take about two tablespoons of each ingredient per shirt. Again, protecting countertop with thick white towel, rub solution into stains for at least 30 seconds. Wash as usual in warm or cold water!

- Want to get rid of watermarks on suede shoes? Spray the entire shoe with water and rub the watermark with a cloth. Stuff it with newspaper to maintain the shape of the shoe and let it air dry for a few days. Using a dryer to hasten the process will leave stain the shoe even more.

Kids prefer to dress up like grownups (by dreamcoo.com)

Kids are in step with the grown-ups when it comes to style. Kiddie clothes don't interest them anymore

Katrina Kaif may have been crowned the Indian Barbie, but was it too late? As just when the grown-ups have taken to the fashion in kiddy world, they themselves have gone beyond the laces and frills.

It's no longer the pink frilly frocks and flouncing skirts that adorn the wardrobe of kids now. They are now aping the adults; sharp and straight cuts are often reflected in their outfits.

Long as well as short skirts, skinny jeans, short dresses, and even, Jodhpuri breeches are sneaking into the cabinets of the little ones. Capris and three quarters, teamed with short printed t-shirts are extremely popular. They are also veering towards graphic print t-shirt, in addition to the existing perennial floral favourites.

Explains designer Abhishek Dutta, "Kids are very demanding now. They are the real customers, and have a good idea of what is in and out. So, while doing up their line, for girls we concentrate mainly on asymmetrical hem lines, drape detailing, and for boys on bandh galas, Jodhpuri breeches and even, a fad with the adults."

The kids wear market is a direct reflection of the hottest trends making rounds in the adult clothing market. In fact, with parents choosing their kids clothing early on, they help to develop a child's fashion sense very early in life.

Adds designer Falguni Peacock, "Parents, today, look for easy and comfortable clothing for their children. The idea is to dress smart. This is mainly because a lot of international brands have come into the Indian market, influencing the dressing style on international lines. Shift and smart cut dresses, and track pants and hooded jackets are extremely popular."Flat Sandals

Designer Priyadarshini Rao attributes this change to the exposure that kids get today. "Children, today, are more particular about how they dress, mainly due to the exposure they get. They do not want to wear frumpy clothes, and prefer comfort clothing. From frills, the kids have graduated to straighter lines," she says.

Fashion guide for summer (by dreamcoo.com)

Go neon
Neon was last summer's fashion trend that has carried on this year as well. Spice up you colour palette with an injection of neons which is also the designers' favourite. From dresses to pants, to tee-shirts and shirts, to shorts, footwear and bags, you name it and you got it.

Hoik up your helmines a few inches
Fashion is doing its best to revoke the subtext of mini dresses this season. When it comes to mini dresses, avoid lace or chiffon to avoid see-through shockers. Pick a block colour and opt for a higher neckline to balance out the nude legs below.

Shine on you, crazy shades!
Let your shades shine. Seen on fashion's finest during the autumn/winter 2013 show, round mirror sunglasses are set to be big for spring. Go for branded sunshades as they provide complete protection. Also, they take your style quotient by several notches as well. Get ahead and find yourself a high-vis pair ready for when the sun comes out.

Put your best foot forward
Go for casual coloured sandals, slides and flip-flops. You can also go for wedge heels if you think you need a bit of height. They are just as comfortable. Of late, the power flat is giving heels a run for their money this spring. Embrace this comfy footwear opportunity with two-tone pointy flats or metallic numbers to give your outfit some high-shine.

Summer dresses
Yes, summers mean summer dresses. Wearing shorts ever day can get boring so add flavour to your wardrobe with some loose dresses in light cotton or a flowy material that will not stick to your body. Cool, minty colours will add that extra zing.
